Programmes and Partnerships: 2012 - 2014

HSBC Young Entrepreneur Challenge (YEC) (2001 - 2012)
A local competition designed to develop entrepreneurship and business acumen among undergraduate students in Malaysia. Each year, country winners competed in the HSBC Asia Pacific YEC and the Malaysian team from Taylor's University won the last regional competition in 2012.
Project to Improve English in Rural Schools (PIERS) (2009 – 2012)
An initiative aimed at improving English proficiency among teachers and head teachers in rural primary schools. The programme was co-funded by HSBC Malaysia and Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad and delivered by CfBT Education Malaysia with the support of the Sabah State Education Department. Throughout the 4-year partnership which has officially ended in 2012, the PIERS programme has benefitted over 240 teachers and more than 19,000 primary school students in Sabah.
HSBC Chevening Scholarships (2002-2014)
The programme awards scholarships to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, including HSBC.
JA More Than Money Financial Literacy Programme (2010 – 2014)
A HSBC global financial literacy programme that teaches primary school students about earning, spending, sharing and saving money. Students also learn about businesses they can start or jobs they can perform to earn pocket money. In Malaysia the programme is moving towards its fifth year in 2014 and involves HSBC employees volunteering their time to teach primary school children. In partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (Amcham), the JA More Than Money syllabus has been offered to over 15 local schools.
HSBC Business Case Competition (2014)
The competition is a unique undergraduate business case competition that brings together students and faculty from some of the best Malaysian universities to contest for the coveted top spot. Teams of four undergraduates representing their respective universities are set to compete against other teams in business strategy-making and presentation.
The competition is judged by a panel that includes HSBC executives, business leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals representing a wide spectrum of industries and disciplines in Malaysia.
Kampung Wira Damai Community Development Programme, Selangor (2013-2014)
The programme is targeted towards improving education and skill attainment among children, youth and women. The programme is designed to facilitate and improve education and skills training amenities and support for the community. With facilitation in place, education and up-skilling sessions will be provided to motivate and support local children and youth to excel in their education and skills attainment as well as empower local adults especially women to improve their livelihood. The programme is delivered in partnership with Yayasan Salam, a Malaysian NGO whose focus is underprivileged community support and development.
